Grace’s Sewing Circle meets on the first and third Tuesdays each month from 8:30 a.m. – noon to lovingly craft quilts for Lutheran World Relief for disbursement to refugees and people in need worldwide. We also create lap quilts, crocheted blankets, walker & wheelie bags, cell phone bags, poly bags & small pillows, which are donated locally — to 10 elderly care places and two children’s assistance facilities in McHenry County — and globally — through Lutheran World Relief Fund to provide warmth and comfort. Each year the volunteers make hundreds of items that are donated locally and around the world.
Most materials are donated by our Grace members and are always welcome. Materials needed are sheets, fabric, pillow stuffing, lightweight blankets, yarn, and quilt batting.
Our group works together on creating all of our items for distribution, with several people working on different stages of each item. Some of our members do work at home and others just work during our twice monthly meetings. Others of us do both. Our members “come when they can, leave when they must” and are welcome to do as little or as much creating as they wish, resulting in a wonderful example of working in community to Share God’s Grace.

Sewing Circle 2025 Year-End Update: We distributed twice in 2025: in April and in November.
Year-end stats were: Local distributed items included 272 lap quilts, 94 crocheted blankets, 102 small pillows, 67 neck pillows, 508 walker bags, 180 wheelie bags, 178 cell phone bags and 260 poly bags. Lutheran World Relief received 205 quilts in 2025 from Grace Sewing Circle. Praise God!
